| Minimum qualifications: * A current Short-Call Substitute license or a valid teaching license issued by the Minnesota Department of Education. * At least 6 months of teaching experience working with students in K-12th grade. Knowledge, skills and abilities: * Excellent organizational, planning and leadership skills. * Familiarity with multicultural, gender and disability-fair interdisciplinary curricula. * Knowledge of research and trends in teaching and learning styles as well as teaching and learning strategies to meet a wide range of student learning styles and abilities. * Ability to work productively with persons from various ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. * Ability to incorporate high order thinking skills in all subject areas. * Ability to work effectively, cooperatively and collaboratively with staff and administration. * Ability to work at least five days per month (preferred). | |
| Responsibilities | |
| Casual Substitute Teacher: A casual substitute teacher is one who teaches on a day-to-day basis not to exceed 15 consecutive school days replacing the same teacher. A casual substitute teacher must hold a Minnesota license that is valid for full-time employment or a Minnesota short call substitute teaching license. Either of these licenses are valid for functioning as a casual substitute teacher at all grade levels and in all fields. Long Call Substitute Teacher: A long call substitute teacher is one who replaces the same teacher for 15 or more consecutive school days. A long call substitute teacher must hold a full time Minnesota teaching license that is valid for the particular substitute assignment. For example, a person who will be subbing for a high school Math teacher must hold a Math license for grades 9-12. The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties: * Arrive at least 15 minutes early before school starts to review lesson plans. * Stay at least 15 minutes after school is out to clean and organize room and help with bus duty if needed. * Follow regular teacher's lesson plans. * Provide effective classroom management skills/strategies. * Interact positively (effectively) with students, administration, school staff and regular teacher. * Develop and implement innovative methods for serving students in a school with a flexible schedule and multiple collaborations. * Report to building on time. * Supervise hallways/corridors to maintain student safety. * Contributes to the District's inclusive workplace efforts by fostering a safe, welcoming and respectful environment. * Perform other duties as assigned. | |

| Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Teacher negotiated labor agreement. The labor agreement and salary schedule can be found at http://hr.spps.org/Labor_Agreements.html Casual substitute teacher pay: * $110 for a full day (over 3.5 hours) * $55 for a half day (3.5 hours and less) Long Term sub pay: * $125 for a full day (must have teaching license in appropriate subject matter and sub for a minimum of 15 consecutive days or more to receive Long Term sub pay.) | |
