About the Job

The Department of Biomedical Sciences seeks an assistant or associate professor to establish a productive, extramurally funded, independent research program in a research area that complements activities of current Academic Health Care Center Duluth (AHCD) faculty in the area of neuroscience and related areas. The successful candidate will also contribute to the department's educational program at undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels and provide service to the department, institution and the profession.

Program/Unit Description
The Department of Biomedical Sciences () is a community of faculty, students, and staff who are committed to providing an enriching and supportive environment to pursue excellence in medical, graduate, and undergraduate education and generate new knowledge through research. The department offers undergraduate, MS, and PhD laboratory training opportunities in several University programs, and provides a stimulating environment for the training of post-doctoral fellows.

The mission of the University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth campus is to be a leader in educating physicians dedicated to family medicine, to serve the health care needs of rural Minnesota and American Indian communities and discover and disseminate knowledge through research.

Qualifications

Required qualifications for Assistant and Associate Professor level candidates

The successful candidate must have:
1) a Ph.D. or an equivalent terminal degree in an appropriate field, with expertise in any area of neuroscience
2) evidence of competence in teaching and communication (i.e., lecture, seminar or abstract delivery, grant preparation and scientific publication) and in working with diverse groups of people
3) US citizenship, permanent residency, or be able to secure permanent resident status

Assistant Professor candidates must have:
1) track record of publications consistent with the appointment of Assistant Professor, tenure track
2) potential to establish and sustain an extramurally funded research program

Associate professor candidates must have:
1) significant track record of first or senior author publications
2) evidence of a national recognition of the candidates work
3) track record in acquiring extramural funding and currently active extramural funding

Preferred qualifications for both Assistant and Associate level candidates:
The preferred candidate will have:
1) expertise in any area of neuroscience that will complement activities of current faculty in the health sciences at the University of Minnesota.
2) excellent communication skills with a strong desire to train students and postdoctoral fellows, collaborate with other investigators across our university system and participate in the departmental teaching mission
3) strong interest in and a willingness to engage in multidisciplinary research with a record of collaborative research.
4). demonstrated ability to secure significant extramural funding.
