About the Job

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Minnesota Duluth seeks to add to its pool of candidates for Instructors, part-time and or full-time, one-year position(s) to teach during the FY 2023-2024 academic year beginning August 21, 2023 with the possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities include clinical instruction of student interns, including in-person and telepractice and simulations supervision; developing and teaching communication disorders courses to undergraduate and graduate students; providing service by serving on committees in the department and/or the University; advising both undergraduate and graduate students regarding both specific coursework and broader academic or career goals; participating in assessment learning including midterm and final evaluations, approving clinical clock hours for student interns, continuing personal growth within the profession, keeping current with the field, and broadening knowledge and expertise; contributing to outreach activities that support the department's mission and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

To be eligible for the position the applicant must have a Master's degree in Communication Disorders; must hold and maintain current ASHA certification as a speech language pathologist; must have a minimum of 9 months of full-time clinical experience after being awarded ASHA certification; must have completed a minimum of 2 hours of professional development in clinical instruction/supervision after being awarded ASHA certification; must have a Minnesota Department of Health license in speech language pathology; and a have a commitment to supporting equity and accessibility in higher education and community settings.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include experience in course management systems for on-line instruction, teaching experience, excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills, excellent written communication skills, past experience in clinical supervision in SLP, and a record of working effectively with a diverse student body.

About the Department

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is housed in the College of Education and Human Service Professions and has 5 full time and 1 part time faculty members, 7 full time and 4part time clinical educators, and strong affiliations with regional schools, hospitals and clinics. The Robert F. Pierce Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic is administered through the Department. The program is accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.

The UMD Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has an undergraduate and graduate degree program. The programs provide specialized coursework and clinical experiences which prepares students to work with speech-language and hearing disabled children and adults in a variety of settings, including the public schools, hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers and private practice.

The CSD program is well recognized for the close faculty-student interaction and mentoring relationships. Faculty serve as mentors for students, culminating in collaborative research projects and clinical service internships and externships.
